It’s Crunch Time!

The holidays are upon us, and our hooks, needles, wheels, and shuttles couldn’t move any faster! I’m right there with you, fiber friends, with two hats that need to be done by Christmas morning, and a sweater project that really needs to look like something more than a skinny strip of fabric by December 14th when I start teaching it as a class! With Chanukah starting things off the 12th, and the rest of the holidays to follow, time is running out to get those gifts ready for loved ones. For those of you who finished your gifts early, Kudos! Now, it’s time to help our time-pressed friends!

The Twisted Ewe started it’s Holiday Hideaway in early November so you have a place to a) get away from a less-than-pleasant family member (even the most mild-mannered folks can become vicious once we breakout the eggnog), and to b) have a place to go that is dedicated to finishing projects before the holidays. Y’know, like how the gym is THE place to go workout but, the difference between us and them is we require no membership fees, and there’s a good chance you might actually use the equipment we have in-store! 😉

The Holiday Hideaway takes place every Saturday during the remainder of December from 1-3pm.

Just found out that your quiet family holiday is turning into a multi-day, extended family, uber-fest? We have some last-minute project suggestions you might like. Time to bust out those size 19 needles, and dust off that Q hook! We have some great super-bulky yarns in stock that could significantly reduce the amount of time needed to knit Aunt Bertha a new cowl.

Rowan Big Wool

This yarn has been a perennial favorite since Rowan launched it some fifteen-odd years ago. Here is a Ravelry search https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/rowan-big-wool/patterns of patterns using Big Wool, there are many, many projects to choose from, but a couple of my favorites are:

Super Bulky Mittens For Women: By extending the length of these mittens a little, they could work well for men, too. Mittens are far less fiddly than gloves to make (so many fingers to knit!), and keep your hands warmer! They also use very little yarn… https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/super-bulky-mittens-for-women

My Kind of Town Cowl: Easy-peasy! Even if you’re the most newbie of newbie knitters, you can whip this up! And, for all of you super experienced knitters, wouldn’t it be nice to not think for a few minutes? Or, you could knit this while falling asleep to ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ for the umpteenth time, and when you give it to your ‘favorite’ niece she will be super impressed to have the trendiest cowl of the season. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-kind-of-town-cowl

Cascade Mondo

A soft, luscious blend of wool and alpaca, this yarn is worked on size 50 hook or needle. It has a beautiful hand, and can truly give you a 2-hour project!

Jumbo Cowl: Crochet this when you’re really in a time-crunch! This could really be a 1-hour project for a crocheter. You’re welcome. 😉 https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jumbo-cowl

Bed Head Hat: The stitch definition in this hat is really quite stunning, which will draw attention away from the wearer’s lack of hairdressing skill. Give to your coif challenged sister.  https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bed-head-hat

Keep an eye out for our next blog post, you may want to forward it loved ones so they know what to put under the tree for you! Happy crunch time!
