Founded by artist Barbara K. Balkin, Back Gate Studio moved from L.A. to beautiful Boise in 2010. In addition to creating and instructing out of her studio, Barbara travels to various schools and businesses in the Boise area teaching classes and workshops for children and adults. After-school Art Classes, Art Camps, Adult Paint Night, Branch Weaving, Ceramics, and more.

“My goal is to provide a supportive atmosphere for exploring, creating and broadening your art experience. You will develop the self-esteem that comes with accomplishment and learn to see things with an artist's eye.”

Barbara has been involved in the design of 'something' since her art and architecture years at UCLA. Her ceramic work has been featured in national magazines, as well as several TV commercials. From her paintings to FIBER ART, she is passionate about creating something unique, challenging herself with interesting combinations of material, texture, and color that warm a space.

"Living in Boise, I'm surrounded by its stunning natural environment. I can't help but incorporate nature's elements into my fiber designs. Reminiscent of family camp-outs, backpacking trips, and vacations in Hawaii, I add sticks and stones to feature the magnificent outdoors in my creations (literally!).

Handmade sweaters and hats will last generations if made with the right materials.

Your talented stitching (beginner’s included) deserves to be supported with quality fibers and the right tools!
